Being first among the short films that focus on the relation between child and mother
relationship, Mama stop! Koen Debyuu is set in Kamakura, Japan. Jumping over a rope with
her sisters and mother, the child can not cope with the play as the tempo hardens.
Kouen Debyuu in Japanese is an expression used for bringing one's child to the park to
play for the first time. Taking this expression in its wider terms, the piece deals with
the tension of a parental control. The rope catches both the mother and the kids in an
accelerating speed helping to dismantle the social role of the mother. The notion of
“play” changes as the characters find themselves in the middle of systemic looping,
where one can not escape.
